NEW ZEALAND BOXING ASSOCIA-

(Pi r Press Association.] DUNEDIN, July 23. Delegates to the affiliated Boxing Association of the Dominion met this m it n “£ decided to substitute for the centre system a system dividing the Dominion into territorial districts, the control of each district to rest with the chief associaion in that district. The districts decided on were Auckland and Poverty Bay, with headquarters at Auckland; Wellington province Nelson and Marlborough, headquarters at Wellington; Hawke’s Bay, headqualters at Hastings; Taranaki, headquarters at New Plymouth; Westland, headquarters at Greymouth; North Canterbury, headquarters at Christchurch; South Canterbury, headquarters at Timaru; Otago, headquarters at Dunedin; and Southland, headquarters at Invercargill. It was decided that the headquarters of the Council shall be at Christchurch, or such other place determined on by a three-fifths majority. * Further resolutions were that no amateur first prize trophy should exceed £5 in value. That >a deputation be appointed to wait on the Government during next session for the purpose fo securing legal recognition of the governing body elected by the Association. That the next championship be offered to'Manawatu, and that the Council be recommended to offer the holding of the Australasian championship meeting held in New Zealand to Auckland. That the conference affirms the principle that it is desirable to set a limit on the size of prizes to be offered for professional contests in which competitors are residents, of New Zealand. That New Zealand delegates to the next Australasian conference be asked to support a proposal to alter the lowest bantam weight to Bst.4lb. That the number of entries in each class from each association in connection with New Zealand championships be limited to two.

new ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

DUNEDIN, July 23

The New Zealand boxing championships were continued this evening. All the competitors came forward except P. Florid, of the West Coast, who retired from tho second round of the feather-weights. Campbell and Wennard’s bout in the second round in the bantams did not last ten seconds, Wennard accidentally getting a blood vessel in the head cut open and having to be carried from the ring. Finnerty, in the second bout in the light-weight final upper-cut Thomson, who was counted out. The most popular win was that of Hegarty, who got the fea-ther-weight championship after fighting three bouts. The meeting concluded at 11.45. As before Messrs C. Bax and F. Shaw were the judges and Mr. Rue Cooke umpire. The results were:— Feather-weights: —Second round: JIlegarty (Timaru) heat L. Porter (Wellington) ; H. Wilson (Canterbury) beat T. Gundry (Canterbury); M. Leckie (Otago) a bye. Semi-final: J. Ilegarty beat- M. Leckie. Final and championship: J. Ilegarty beat Wilson. Bantams:—Second Round: W. M. Campbell (Otago) bdat W. H. Wennard (Wellington); o. Stewart (Timaru) a bye; fin al and championship: C. Stewart beat W. M. Campbell. Middle-weights:—Second Round: A. C. Cooper (Otago) beat P. Campbell (Southland); S. Monaghan (Otago) beat J. J. Hughes (Southland). Final and championship: S. Monaghan beat A. C. Cooper. Light-weights: —Second Round: A. Thompson (Canterbury) beat Ross ( Auckland); J. H. Finnerty (Southland) beat W. J. Smith (Wellington). Final and championship: J. H. Finnerty beat A. Thompson. Heavy-weight:—Final and championship : M. Ryan (Southland) heat P. Rusto’n (Otago). Welter:—Final and .championship: G. Watehorn (Wellington) beat W. Penbertliy (Canterbury).
