As there was a considerable range in the river, Captain Benton decided not to come in, and the vessel was brought alongside at noon yesterday. Coming up the river there was less water than had been anticipated, and the vessel touched bottom in places. She took the ground just outside the end of the •wharf, and it was only after a lot of manoeuvring that she was got alongside the wharf, and made fast. The vessel returns to Auckland to-night with a cargo of sheep. The schooner Awanui sailed at 10 p.m. on Saturday for Auckland, taking a general cargo. The U.S.S. Co.’s Monowai arrived from Auckland at 10 a.m. yesterday. She was tendered on arrival, the heavy roll in the Bay hampering the work of transhipping her passengers and their luggage. Owing to the tide being unfavorable, the outward passengers could not be taken out at the usual hour —5 p.m., but at 8 p.m., with a two hours’ flood tide, the Tuatca left the wharf and safely negotiated the channel. The U.S.S. Co.’s Wanaka is expected to arrive from south to-morrow morning with a cargo of produce, on discharge of which she proceeds to Auckland.
