(Per Press Association.) WAIHI, July 24. Since the intersection of the main Martha lode in the north crosscut- at \’o. 5 level in the Waihi. Grand Junction mine on Thursday last, a distance of 22ft has been penetrated, with no sign of footwall indications ; showing that it will prove an immense body of ore. The first 10ft gave an average value of 18s per ton. Subsequently tire average value improved to over £4 per ton; and the present face shows a fuller improvement. In the south crosscut, at the same level, the face of the Empire lode is 30ft wide, and the average value over £3 per ton. The latestreports from the Waihi Extended mine show a marked decrease of the flow of water from the drill holes in the face of the reef, struck some weeks back, but which has been untouched, lest the volume of water, if the reef was broken into, would be too great to cope with. The decreased pressure of water behind the face of the lode is associated with the intersection of t-lie main Martha lode in the Junction mine. Driving through the reef should not now be delayed much longer. AUCKLAND, July 24. The manager of the Grand Junction mine wires: “Next nve feet of the No. 5 -lode, £4 7s fid per ton.” This follows yesterday’s wire, “First 13ft. worth 18s per ton.”
