HOCKEY.

HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. The weekly meeting-of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association was held at the Royal Hotel last evening, Mr. GK. Pas'ley (president) in the chair. In connection with the ordering of a player off the field, reported at the last meeting of the Association by the referee (Mr. Armstrong), it was decided to inform the player that, aftor coni sidering all the circumstances, the Association would uphold the referee’s decision, and ho would be warned that the authority of referees must not be questioned during the progress of the game. A letter was received from the Hawke’s Bay Hockey- Association stating that the New Zealand ladies’ hockey tournament will be held in Napier, commencing on August 20th next. It was decided to inquire from the Gisborne Ladies’ Hockey Club if a team is to be sent.

The Hawke’s Bay Hockey Association also sent advice that a team of players would bo sent to Gisborne this season, on a date to be fixed. The Auckland Hockev Association sent advice that no matches could take place in Auckland .on Thursdays or Fridays, as the half-holiday falls on Saturday, and in view of the proposed tour players would be unable to get off from w<Jrk during the week. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Hockey Association asking that a date be appointed for a match with Auckland; the date to be a Thursday or Friday, if possible. Mr. P. Bushnell was appointed referee in the West End v. Civil Service match, at 2.15 p.m., and Mr. Grenfell the City vr Kia Kaha match' at 3.30 p.m., en Victoria Domain to-day. TO-MORROW’S MATCHES. The following hockey matches will be played on Victoria ’Domain to-mor-row:—West End v. Civil Servants, 2.15 p.m.; Gisborne v. Star, 3 p.m.
