It was resolved “That the Government should share tlie responsibility ot fencing lands for adjoining settlers.” “That the Government be requested to discontinue requiring owners to furnish returns of land values, as they appear to be quite valueless.” ■ “That imported timber should be admitted duty free, and no differential rate should be made in rail carriage between New Zealand grown and imported timber.” , , , “That immediate steps be taken to make tho fifth plank of the Union effective, namely, that taxation through the Customs should be for the purposes of raising revenue, not for protective purposes.” » .“'That this conference protests in tro strongest possible manner, against a Ministerial position being allotted.to a member of tho House who is not responsible to a European constituency.” “That the Conference endorse Sir Joseph Ward’s action in offering a Dreadnought to the Mother Country, realising that self-help js the first principle of safety for the people, and consider it a cheap insurance for the safe transit of tlie products of the Dominion to the markets of the or Id.” “That while there is so much waste land in New Zealand (both Crown and Native) awaiting settlement, this 1 conference considers it inadvisable to continue borrowing money ill foreign markets for the purchase of private estates while by the sale of Cjrown lands sufficient money could lie procured for the settlement of Crown and Native lands under the Lands for Settlement Act.
