UNDUE PESSIMISM.
CONDEMNED BY MR. DUTHIE.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, July 30. Speaking to a “Post” reporter, Mr. O’ohn Duthie, who lias returned from "Sydney, said: “Our fair name seems to' be regarded with some disfavor in the Commonwealth. Too much, far too much, is made of our depression by ourselves. The newspapers are responsible to a very large extent for it. The press makes too much of the unemployed question; far too much. The press of Australia takes us at our word. We don’t give the other side in our reports, and on them they base their views. One would gather from Australian opinions that- there was something approaching a panic here. It is absurd. 1. think we overdo outf unemployed cry altogether, and magnify our depression. _
