Five hundred persons'were killed. Both Chilpancingo and Chilapa wore destroyed. [Chilpancingo and Chilapa are in the south of Mexico, in the province of Guerrero, and are situated about 20 and 30 miles respectively from the sea —the Pacific Ocean. The active volcano Popocatepetl lies about 40 miles to the north of the two towns.]
