CAMPING ON KAITI BEACH.

[To The Editor.] Sir, —Is it true as I have heard stated that some attempt is to be made to prevent our townspeople and thc-ii\farn-ilies from indulging in the luxury they have so long enjoyed of an anmfal holiday by camping on the beach at Ivaiti I trust that-there is no truth in that statement for there is no more healthy or pleasant manner of enjoying a holiday than this, which is to many the only way of getting away for a week or two from the torrid heat of our town. The-temperature of Gisborne is in summer almost tropical from the formation of the hills, which exclude the tempering sea 'breezes, and a holiday on the beach facing the broad Pacific-is an inestimable boon to enervated mothers and children, who have been cooped op in. the town-all the rest of the year. To prevent them from: obtaining this boon cheaply and easily would in my opinion be little short of a crime, nor can I see any reason for such a tyrannical, act. Hut, as I said before, I trust the statement is but an idle canard. I am, etc., ‘ ‘MATER-F AMILI AS. ’ ’ [A “Times” reporter discussed the subject matter of the above letter with the Mayor, who stated that a great deal of annoyance had been caused' and many complaints had been received regarding the nuisances created by c a piping parties. Legitimate holiday-seek-ers would have no difficulty in obtaining the permission of the Council to camp in the vicinity mentioned, but tile trouble had largely arisen through persons making their permanent residence there, and also in other places. By-law 19a roads.: “No tent of any description shall he erected <>r maintained within the boundaries of the Borough of Gisborne'unless with the express sanction in writing of the Council, and the Council may limit the period during which such tent shall remain erected, and on the expiration of which the person by whom the tent was erected shall- .remove the same.”]
