The Manapouri reported on arrival at Wellington that the British cruisers Flora and Cambrian called off Papeete oil the 14th inst., but, as the Cambrian touched while coming out of the passage a few months ago when going to South America, both vessels went round to Vairao to coal. The ilakanoa arrived at Tahiti on the 16th inst. with coal from Westport for the warships. The Rakanoa was to have left Vairoa last Monday week for New Zealand. The brig Mna, which has done duty ■at Port Chalmers for the past twentyfive years or so as a hulk, says the ‘•Auckland Star.” has been sold by J. Mil! and Co. to Mr. Is bister, of Carey Bay. The name Moa recalls the early days of shipping in this harbor, when, with the brigs Henry and Thomas, the Pakoha, and the barque Pallas, she was an intercolonial trader of some.importance. As a mail carrier between Auckland and Sydney her prestige probably touched its zenith at an earlier period. The old Thomas and Henry, which accompanied her into the exile of old age, was also a craft of considerable merit in the days before steam supplanted the capricious winds as a mail motive power. Captain Christian, who. once commanded the Moa, is now master of the collier Pareora. and Captain Thomson, ex-harbonnaster, navigated the bluff bows of the Thomas and Henry across the Tasman Sea. Like many another veteran pioneer the Moa is to 1)0 useful to the last, she having been purchased to act the part of breakwater to the slip at Carey Bay.
