ATHLETICS.

MR A. HALLIGAN: One of the most brilliant athletes New Zealand has produced is Mr Arthur Halligan, a Wellington boy, who is now at Denny’s shipbuilding yards, at Dumbarton, Scotland, gaining Homo experience in his profession of electrical engineer. When he left Wellington he took with him an excellent record in amateur athletics. He came* right to the front after reaching Britain, being selected to represent Scotland in the Olympic Games in London. Ho failed there, however, to beat the American -3yds hurdle champion, but subsequently at Glasgow, amid) a sceno of great excitement, made a dead heat of it with his victor at'Olympia. Halligan carried off this event in the annual contests between Scottish and Irish athletes. This year he has proved that he is still in his last year’s form. At the big meet big of the West *of Scotland. Harriers he won the 120yds hurdles from 16yds behind scratch in a very • >asy style. Writing of the event, the Glasgow “News” says“Halligan, West Harriers, topped very neatly, and knows the race in the finish after champion Stronach’s style. Halligan is atall, slender-built New Zealander, who came to Scotland a year ago. He won with ease.”
