CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. At the Police Court to-dav, George Nottingham and Frederick Tom Dennett who were arrested on July 2Sth in a private house in Durham Surect, pleaded guilty to a charge of being found in Sophia Clarke’s house with intent to commit a crime, and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The same accused were! charged with having, on July 27th, assaulted JuliaHarvey, with intent to rob. The evidence showed that at half-past- 10 on the night mentioned, two men followed Miss Harvey, and one put his hand over her month, whilst the other, when she screamed, hit her on the eye and' cheek. One man searched her belt and pocket, whilst the other held her. She could not positively swear that the accused wore the men who assaulted her, hut another witness, who saw two men standing near where the alleged assault was committed, and heard cries for help, had identified Nottingham at the police station .among other men. Both the accused pleaded not guilty,, and were committed for trial.
