TO-DAY’S AIATCH

The ordinary Thursday games will be suspended to-day, and a match between the Mangatu Sub-Union and a country '* team will bo played at the \ lC^ or ' a Domain, commencing at 3 p.m. Lotli . sides are putting fairly strong fifteens in the field, and a good game is anticipated. The Mangatu players arrive from the country by the tram this morning.

DEFENCE CADETS. The following will represent the Gisborne Defence Cadets in their match against the Napier Defence Cadets at I. p.m. on Saturday Full-back, L. File; three-quarters, W. Tapapa, C. Emergencies: H. Neal, 0. Hansen, G. AVright, A. Beere. ~ The following will represent the Napier City Cadets: W. Gempton, W. Chambers, Golds, Summersel, Laurie, J. Dooney, R. Heron, M. Evans, A. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of the Referees’ Association last night the following referees wore appointed for this week s matches. To-day— -Mangatu v. country. Mr. W. Hay. Saturday—High School v. YMC.A. Air. J. J. Martin; Napier Defence Cadets v. Gisborne Defence Cadets, Air. Harold Carr.

THE COMING TOUR. A great number of players are actively engaged in training in view' of the coming tour of the representative team. The team m ill bo finally chosen after the Waiapu-Poverty Bay match on Saturdav. Arrangements in connection with the tour are now well m hand, and the following is the completed list of fixtures: Auckland, August 14th; Wanganui, August 17th; Bush Unions, at Pahiatua, August 19th; Napier, August 21st; Hastings, August 24th The team returns on Wednesday, August 25th, and will play a match against the Wairoa representatives at the Victoria Domain on Saturday, August 28th.

AUSTRALIAN GAAIE. The following have been selected to play in the match Imperials v. . Austrais, on the League’s ground this afternoon: —Australs from: J. Carr, h. Wack, Shillabeer, Story, J- Williams, Commons, (Atkinson (2), Heffernan, Brown, Dandy, Smith, late (2), McPherson, Cooper, Dixon, Dalton. Imperials from: H. BRITISH ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

PONSONBY DEFEATS SOUTH SYDNEY.

Suited Press Association— Copyright (Received August 4, 9,45 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 4. The match'between Ponsonby and South Sydney resulted as follows: Ponsonby 25, South Sydney 6. It was play* ed in fine weather with a high wind. Pousonby, losing trie toss, played against the wind in the first'spell, which ended up with very even play. Savory secured a try, which O’Leary converted. South Sydney scored a try. In the second spell Ponsonby had all their own way, and piled up the score, the local players only adding three points to the visitors’ 20. The line-out work of Ponsonby was much superior to that of their opponents, and their weightier forwards told. In the second half tries were secured by Francis. McGregor, Savory, and Murray, and converted by O’Leary in each case.
