THEATRICAL CORRESPONDENCE.
ADA WARD AND WALTER BENTLEY. ENTERTAINING COMMUNICATIONS. United Press Association —Copyright. (Received August 5, 10.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 5. An interesting correspondence between Miss Ada Ward and Mr. Walter Bentley has been published. The latter sought to obtain from Miss Ward proof of a recent statement that several actors had left the stage through her ministrations in Sydney, and asked her if she had come to a decision about returning to the stage. She wired front Melbourne, “Will accept £IOOO weekly.” This was the result of an interview with Mr. Bentley in Sydney, when mention was made of staging “Macbeth,” and the possibility of her appearing at Lady Macbeth. Mr. Bentley replied, “Terms prohibitive.” In a" letter from Adelaide Miss Ward stated, “I shall most likely make my re-appearance at Portsmouth.”
