The Rev. Mr Hodgson, chaplain of th Leeds Ride Club, was watching territorial manoeuvres at Grisborough, when he was killed by a stray bullet from a ball cartridge that had been mixed with blank ammunition.

At the horse sales, on account of Mr Gadsby, Taranaki, the Clydesdale Big Ben was sold for 70 guineas; on account of Hoult, Feilding, two colts were sold for 28 and 30 guineas. D. The Federal and State authorities propose prompt action to prevent the potato disease spreading from Tasmania to other States. THE MISSING GERMAN YACHT. BRISBANE, August 6. A steamer has returned after an unavailing search for the German yacht Seestern. EMBEZZLING BANK FUNDS. ADELAIDE, August 6. Jacobs, late manager of the Bank of Adelaide, at Caltowie, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for embezzling £213, moneys of the bank.
