RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
AN APPLICATION DISMISSED. [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, August 7. The Railway Appeal Board considered the appeal of John SweeneyV wharf foreman, at Bluff, which was based on the ground that the stationmaster at Bluff had declined to recommend him for an increase of pay. A number of witnesses subordinate to him, were called to say that they were satisfied with the way in which Sweeney discharged his duties.
Mr Haselden, chairman of the Board, said that if this procedure was to be adopted in appeals, the better way would be to call a public meeting of all railway servants at tire Bluff, and take a vote as to whether Sweeney was a good man or not. In dismissing the appeal and intimating that the. Board would probably suggest Sweeney’s transference, Mr. Haselden said that unless an appellant in such cases as the present could show that a certificate, had been withheld from corrupt or improper motives, he must be unsuccessful..
