DRUNKENNESS

John Jacob Keefe was.convicted of a second offence within six months, and was fined £1 with 2s costs, in default four clays’ imprisonment. A similar penalty was inflicted in the case of Thomas Hales, who was convicted for the third time within six months.

John Allan was convicted and fined Ids and 2s costs or 48' hours’ gaol.

VAGRANCY

John Brosnahan pleaded not guilty to being an idle and disorderly person without lawful visible means of support. . Evidence was given by Constables Scott and Pratt and by Detective Rawle to tlie effect that accused had, on his own admission, only done 4 days’ work in 6 weeks. Also that he was continually in the company of convicted thieves, half drunken men. and prohibited persons. Accused pleaded that he had been tinable to obtain work owing to the fact that so many unemployed were about, but the Bench decided that “a trip to Napier” would do the accused “no harm” and he was accordingly convicted and sentenced to 5 weeks’ imprisonment.

OBSCENE LANGUAGE. John Lowry pleaded guilty to a charge of having used language of a most disgusting nature in the vicinity of the Railway Stables in Peel Street on Saturday afternoon. He was convicted and fined £2 with casts of Court 12s.

BREACH OF PROHIBITION ORDER John Allan was charged with having procured liquor during the currency oi a prohibition order against him. On the application of Sergt. Hutton accused was remanded until Monday 16th inst., pending the return of Mr. W. A. Barton, S.M., from the Coast. Bail, in one surety of £lO, was allowed.
