. •/. A LECTURING TOUR. £20,000 PERSONAL GUARANTEE TO REPAY. United Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, August 8. Lieutenant Shackletbn will lecture in the United States and Canada. President Taft and Earl Grey are members of the reception committee. Record fees are guaranteed. Lieutenant Shackleton, interviewed, stated that the proceeds of the lectures were already mortgaged. He explains that a group of Englishmen who promised assistance .to his late expedition withdrew at the last moment, owing to the American financial crisis. Lieutenant Shackleton raised £20,000 upon personal guarantees. Australia s and New Zealand’s contrbiutions were asei secure additional stores and scun tific equipment. He hopes, by the proceeds of his books, lectures, and i <-r----sonal subscriptions, to repay the £20,000 by the duo date, July, 1910.
