The Government has prohibited the importation of Tasmanian and Queensland’ potatoes owing to the existing Irish blight in those States. HOBART, August 9.

The Government is pressing for New Zealand’s reply to its request for the loan of Mr Kirk’s services in connection with the potato disease. (Received August 9, 10.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, 9.

The Inspectors to-day condemned several thousand bags of potatoes as diseased. The Government will issue a proclamation on Wednesday prohibiting tbe importation of Tasmanian and Queensland potatoes, owing to the Irish blight in those States. The price of Tasmanian redskins jumped to £9 per ton in Sydney to-day. Some holders declined to do business at that figure.
