HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE. (Por Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 9. The High Commissioner’s cable, dated London August 7th, states: There is a dull sale for all quantities of mutton, except prime light-weight, which is very scarce. The stocks of mutton on hand are heavy. North Island and River Plate mutton is selling at the same price, with little chance of any advance. Canterbury is at North Island at 2£d. Thelamb market is very weak, although there is a good demand for prime quality. The low prices for lamb are increasing the output. Canterbury is at 3fd, North Island 3|d. The beef market is firmer, with a better demand. New Zealand hindquarters are at 3fd, forequarters at 2fd. The butter market is quiet, but firm for best quality. New Zealand is ah 108 s (nominal), Danish 113 s, Siberian 100 s. The cheese market is quiet, but steady. There is a general active demand' for New Zealand at 60s. The hemp market remains firm on account nf the offering being very small from New. Zealand. Good fair grade, on soot. £25 per ton (nominal), New Zealand fair grade £23 per ton (nominal), fair current Manila, on spot, £24 10s per ton ; July-September shipments of New Zealand' good fair grade £24 10s per ton, New Zealand fair grade £23 10s per ton, fair current- Manila £24 per ton. The output for the week was 25,000 bales. The wool market- has advanced.
