WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIPENGLISHAIAN WILL NOT COAIE OUT. The latest issue of the London £ 'Sportsman” to hand, in referring to a letter received by Air James Field from Air Andrews, of tho “Sunday Sun,” Sydney, says that it would appear that a match for the world s championship on the Thames is a more distant event than it appeared to be. The New Zealander is not to be blamed for exercising his prerogative as champion of the world, for, apart from winning or losing the match with Barry, Arnst has more to gain by rowing at home than here. ■At the same time the matter, so fai as 'it affects Barry and his supporters, has quite a different aspect. For Barry to row for the world’s championship on the Thames there would be £SOO stake money to put up against Arnst, and the expenses for him, amounting to £l5O or £200; but ioi Barry to row in New Zealand or Australia there would not be a penny piece, that is, unless the Englishman can find other backers, than those whosupported him in his race against George Towns. . The people behind the English champion hold strongly to the opinion that his racing experience is not yet complete enough for him to go abroad, and compete in such important events. They do not disguise their views, and have made up their minds on the point. Then again, interest in English professional sculling, which everybody hopes to see revived, would be increased by a world’s championship match on the Thames. There is no doubt now that Arnst must he a very fine sculler.
