CITY (3) v. Y.M.C.A. (2).

The game played between the City and Y.M.C.A. clubs was of an interesting nature, the City team winning by one point. Grinlinton, Nicolas, and Friar scored for the City club, and Brown and Pine for Y.M.C.A. The girls attending the High School and the Gisborne Ladies’ Hockey club also played a practice game.

The secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Hockey Association has received the following ten entries in the senior grade for .the forthcoming ladies’ championship hockey tournament, to be held in Napier and Hastings, commencing on the 20th inst. :' Auckland, Taranaki, Wanganui, Wellington, Nelson, Horowhenua (one team each), tVairarapa, and Hawke’s Bay (two teams each). Owing to the smallness of the entries in the junior grade (3), it lias been decided not to hold this competition.

THE AUCKLAND TEAM—A DRAW WITH WANGANUI.

' WANGANUI, August 12. The Auckland representative hockey team played their first match on tour at Wanganui this afternoon, the game ending in a draw. The weather was perfect, the ground in good order, and the attendance over a thousand. The first spell was in favor of the visitors. Smythe scored by following up a shot from a line hit. Auckland were superior in stick play. In the second spell the Wanganui forwards, showing better combination, kept the visitors’ defence busy. Soler scored from a rebound .from the goal post. Spear, Cave, and Miller were the pick of the local team. The Auckland half line was excellent. Mather, Barry, and Smythe were, the best of the forwards. The visitors njere continually penalised for obstruction and carrying the ball. Mr. W. Miller made an excellent referee.
