TASMANIAN AND QUEENSLAND POTATOES PROHIBITED. ALLEGED EXISTENCE OF BLIGHT IN NEW SOUTH WALES. On men Pimehh Association —Copyhioiit. (Received August 13, 10.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 13.
Two members of tile Tasmanian. Parliament interviewed the Minister of Agriculture to-day, with a view to induce him to withhold the prohibition of Tasmanian potatoes.N Subsequently a proclamation was issued 'prohibiting the importation of Tasmanian and Queensland potatoes. A conference of State Ministers of Agriculture will be held in Melbourne next week, whereat the potato 1 ..disease and the prohibition question will be discussed.
A statement has been made that potatoes infected with blight have reached Sydney from the Western Districts.
PRECAUTIONS IN NEW ZEALAND. [Pick Pitr.se Association.! AVELLINGTON, August 13. The Government biologist (Mr T. AV. Kirk) informed a reporter that for some time past the-- importation of potatoes attacked by any of the following diseases had been prohibited: Eel worm,, potato blackleg, potato baeteriosis, po-. tato wet rot, potato dry rot, Irish blight, potato moss, and . early blight. Those regulations were gazetted on the 27th February, 1908, and ever since that time potatoes imported into New Zealand have been examined, and if found to be suffering from any of those diseases were at once reshipped or destroyed.
