THE DUKE OF NORFOLK’S CASE.
HIS REPLY TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS.
United Punas Association-Copyright LONDON, August 12. In reference to the cable of July 21st the Duke of Norfolk wrote that he had not authorised the publication of the letter to Mr Profumo. If the Committee of Privileges desired his presence he presumed the application must be made to' the House of Lords. The House of Commons committee’s decis-* ion in the matter was adjourned. [The cable message of July 21st was as follows: “On the motion of Mr Dillon, seconded by Mr John Redmond,, they, House of Commons resolved that the Duke of Norfolk had been of a breach of privilege in writing to the Unionist candidate for High Peak in the interest of the Catholic schools. Mr Asquith expressed the view that the House of Commons would be stultifying itself if it allowed the matter t-o pass . unnoticed. Mr Balfour said that the matter was trivial, and he twitted the Radicals with furbishing up .rusty wea r pons of immemorial antiquity instead of preserving the living and working elements of the Constitution. Mr Profumo was the Unionist candidate for High Peak. The resolution declaring the Duke of Norfolk guilty of a breach of privilege was carried by a party, t vote.]
