THE NEW ALPINE MINE. . (Special to "Times.”) GREYMQUTH, August 13. In consequence of the cam shaft breaking towards the end of last week, the battery at the New Alpine mine has stopped, and a clean-up took place; Toooz 12dwt of melted gold being obtained from the plates and boxes. The cyanide extraction‘from the sands.etc., will be completed and sent down by the end of the week. Nine hundred and eighty tons of stone were treated. The manager reports: The reef remains a good, size. The gold is irregular and, roughly speaking, the best stone is on the hanging wall side of the reel, whereas south of the middle winze tlie good stone is in the footwall_ side. There is an improvement in No. 7 stop© north, and it appears to correspond to No. 6 stope south. This would indicate that there is another run of gold coming in from the north. The other stopes south are in the old run/of gold. Repairs to the battery are now being effected, and will shortly be completed and crushing again commenced.
