TUESDAY, AUGUST 17. (Before Mr W. A. Barton, S.M.) DRIVING WITHOUT LIGHTS. Riki Rangi, for whom Mr Burnard appeared, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving without lights on the night of August 10th. Mr Burnard said the man came into town on some business which took a longer time than he expected and so had to drive home without lamps. A fine of 10s with 9s Gd costs was imposed. MAINTENANCE ORDERS.
Margaret Whitfield (Mr Burnard) proceeded against William Charles Whitfield (Mr Finn) to maintain his two children. By consent an order was made for the respondent to contribute 15s per week; solicitors’ costs £1 Is was allowed informant. Helen Mary Wilson (Mr Burnard) proceeded against Francis Edward Wilson for maintenance. The sum of £5 was in arrears on the order made. The defendant said he had been unable to get work and obtain money to pay off the arrears. The case was adjourned for a week to allow defendant an opportunity to pay. DRUNKENNESS. A native pleaded’ guilty to being drunk at Whatatutu on Saturday July 31st. As the accused was a first offender a fine of 5s with 24s costs, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment was imposed. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Peni Waikare was with using obscene language at Te Ivaraka on August 14th. The accused was undefended and pleaded guilty. The accused was fined £2 with costs 17s, in default 7 days’ imprisonment.
