Mr Winston Churchill, interviewed, explains that the insurance lor unemployment scheme . which he and Mr Lloyd-George have matured will be compulsorily contributory. It is divided into different sections for different trades. The weekly contribution will be 2)d each from worker and employer. The employer’s duty will be to deduct the worker’s contribution from the wages. The scheme will be. for regular, competent, workers only. Habitual idlers must go to distress committees, or receive poor law relief. The assistance will.be less than trade union relief. The annual cost to the Treasury will be £1,500,000. The insurance scheme will be at first applied to building, engineering, and shipbuilding construction works, and vehicle making trades.
