SITTINGS IN WELLINGTON.

In the Supreme Court, Albert Chas.Weingott was sentenced to four months imprisonment for the theft of a. horse, and Francis Ramsay to two months for an indecent act. The jury failed to agree in the case in which Peter Williamson Tait was charged with assault. SITTINGS IN CHRISTCHURCH. V .CHRISTCHURCH, August 19. At the Supreme Court to-day Patrick Dalton and James Arthur were charged' with conspiring to defraud Henry Uni. Tee indictment alleged that the oxfence was committed in a railway car riage travelling between Belfast and Christchurch on May 24th, Urn bong defrauded of £lB by the throc-c- rd trick. The accused were convicted. Dalton was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment, and Arthur was ordered to stand down pending inquiries. Frederick Marshall was indicted that on May 9th, 1908, being then the servant of the United) Farmers’ Coal Company, he stole £2 4s of the monies of tho company. There was a second count that on Juno 26th, 1908, at Ashburton, the accused stole the sum of £6O lelot ging to the company. The trial was net concluded when the Court rose for the day. SITTINGS IN DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, August 19. At the Supreme Court to-day Frederick Matthews, who was convicted yesterday on a charge of breaking and entering and theft, was to-day found guilty on a charge of receiving stolen property. He was sentenced to three roars’ imprisonment, and warned that he would be declared an habitual criminal if ho came before the Court again. Michael Coleman was convicted on a charge of assaulting Constable Daubney so as to cause actual bodily harm, and was sentenced to twelve months. Frederick Charles Lacey was sentenced to four years on a charge of wilfully setting fire to a dwelling-house. Jessie Foley was granted a decree nisi in a petition for divorce from Arthur Foley on the ground of desertion.
