The Waterside Workers’ Conference affirmed the principle of nationalisation of land as tire only solution of labor’s economic troubles, also urging that each port should provide it own laborers to work vessels. Tlie conference resolved that this conference affirms its convictions that t }| c rent of the land is a social value which belongs to the community; hence it should be taken by taxation for the common benefit by an increase of tl e lan 1 tax.

A BREEZE IN THE CONFERENCE

WELLINGTON, August 20.‘ At the Waterside 'Workers’ Conference to-day, two delegates, Messrs McCann and Jones (Wellington) questioned the right of the secretary (Mr. McLaren) to vote. Tvlr. McLaren said he was there as a delegate ex officio, and had explained that when the conference opened. After a rather turbulent discussion, the conference supported Mr. McLaren, and asked Messrs McCann and Jones to retire from the conference, which they did.
