NEW SCALE OF TRAVELLING ALLOWANCES.

It is notified in last night's Gazette that, except in cases where a higher rate is or may he specially authorised by the Minister, all officers travelling on tin; service of the Post and Telegraph Department will receive the followin'- allowances for personal expenses: Officers drawing salaries not exceeding £4OO per annum, per diem I.os ; officers drawing salaries exceeding £4OO per annum', 12s 6d per diem ; while at sea for the- first day the ordinary onshore allowance, and for subsequent days 2s 6d. For the last day’s travelling actual expenses only will be paid. The cost of .transport- by land and sea will be paid by the Department. Officers performing relieving duty are not entitled to draw .travelling allowance under this regulation for any time during which they perform such relieving duty, except as follows: When in performing relieving duty an officer is not,' required to stay more than three nights in the place. Where such duty is performed he may claim to b® paid travelling allowance instead of relieving allowance if his accommodation for the time of his stay is not fully paid for by the relieving allowance, and if he so claims ho shall he paid accordingly.
