TURKEY.
LECTURED BY THE POWERS. FRIENDLY ADVICE AND A WARNING. United Pbesb Abbociation —Copyright. (Received August 22, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 22. The Powers, in a fresh note to Turkey, express regret that the latter had not left the settlement of the Cretan crisis in the hands of the protecting Powers, who had shown every disposition to safeguard Turkish interests. The note suggests, regarding the complaints of Greek activity in Macedonia, that the best course would be to submit any grievance to the Powers which were the signatories to the Treaty of Berlin. It is stated that the Porte was warned that in the event of war the Powers would guarantee Greece’s territorial integrity.
GREECE’E REPLY TO TURKEY. CONSIDERED SATISFACTORY. Greece’s reply to the Turkish note is regrded at Constantinople as distinctly satisfactory, and public opinion is reassured.
