LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. (Per Press. Association.) .NAPIER, August 28. The New Zealand ladies’ championship tournament was continued on the recreation ground to-day. There was a good attendance. A fairly strong wind was blowing, and rather spoilt the play. The following are the results:— Wairarapa A. v. Wanganui, a draw, 1 goal each. - ; Wellington beat Horowhenua by 1 goal to nil, • Hawkers Bay B beat Wairarapa by 2 goals' to 1. . . , Auckland beat Nelson by 3 goals to L goal. Hawke’s Bay A beat Taranaki by 2 goals to nil. ,

HAWKE’S BAY WINS LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. NAPIER, August 29. The New Zealand ladies’ hockey championship tournament was brought to a close on Saturday. The Wellington team, owing to some of their players having returned home, found ;they would be unable to play Hawke’s Bay B on Monday, and as this would leave Hawke’s Bay B undisputed winners of the championship, they having gone through the tournament without- defeat the various visiting teams met and’decided to cancel Monday’s fixtures. Hawke’s Bay A, with eight wins and no losses, thus wins the-cham-pionship for the second iyear in_ succession. Auckland, with seven wins and one loss, is second; Nelson, six wins two losses, third;' Taranaki, five wins three losses, fourth; Hawke’s Bay B, four wins three losses, one draw; Wairarapa A, three wins three losses two draws; Wellington, three wins five losses; Horowhenua, one win six losses one draw; Wanganui, six losses two draws ; -a,hd Wairarapa B, seven losses one draw, follow in that order. The tournament will he, held next year at Nelson. • CANTERBURY DEFEATS OTAGO.’ CHRISTCHURCH, August 29. Canterbury beat Otago by 3 goals to nil. Canterbury ladies beat South Canterbury ladies by 2 goals’to ■ nil.
