GOLF.

POVERTY BAY GOLF CLUB. Heavy rain fell 'on Saturday, and the conditions in the afternoon were the reverse of favorable when the qualifying round for the championship was played. Seventeen players braved the elements, and the scores recorded were creditable under the weather conditions which prevailed. Mr. H. W. Barker’s trophy for the best nett score on club handicaps was played simultaneously, and was won by W. A. O’Meara, whose card read: 103—20—83. This player is showing good form.this- season, and has carried off quite a number of trophies. In the qualifying round, G. M. Dodgshun returned the best card. He went out in 44, and equalled bogey on the run home with 42, which gave him 86 for the round —a highly creditable performance in such weather. Pare Keiha came next with 89, while Chirnside and Geoff. Willock followed with 90 and 92 respectively. The notice-board intimated that those players who were unable to turn up last Saturday may play their qualifying rounds any day before Saturday, next. The following were the scores: — •G. M.
