POVERTY BAY RUGBY UNION

The usual weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was held in the Masonic Hotel last night. Present: Messrs H. E. Maude (chairman), J. S. Wauchop, J. A. Eaton, H. Bright, and E. L. Maude (hon. sec.). Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs L. 0. Ingram and •V. Johnston. Accident insurance was granted to J. Ryan, who was injured in a match before the representatives went on tour. The use of the Domain was granted to the Gisborne School girls to play a ■hockey maltch against Hastings on Saturday next, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Some discussion took place regarding the alleged illegal transfer of a player from one of the Coast teams to another, and it was resolved to reply to the Waiapu Sub-Union stating that the question was purely one of local government. - » The Y.M.C.A. third fifteen were granted the use of No. 2 ground at the Domain on Saturday next to play a challenge match with the Makauri third fifteen, and the ground was granted on Thursday, 23rd September, for a match between the Butchers and Carters." Permission was granted to the City Club to play in different colored jerseys, owing to their gear having been burned in the fire at the shed last Saturday. An offer from Mr. W. Howard for the purchase of the debris of the shed was left in the hands of the chairman. Additional players were passed, for the Gisborne Club, and a number of accounts were passed for payment. A letter was received from the Pirates Club, Napier, asking for a game with the Kaiti-City juniors, in about a couple of weeks’ time.—The necessary permission was granted. The manager of the touring representative team presented a full report of the tour, and also a financial statement.

All the members .present expressed their pleasure at the nature of the report, which expressed the great satisfaction of the manager at the general good behavior of the team. Mr Maude was complimented upon the manner in which he had managed the team, and a hearty vote of thanks to him was passed by acclamation. J 111 replying, Mr. Maude said that he had done his best, and was very pleased at the way the Union had received his report. He was very proud of. the team which had been sent away, to represent Povorty Bay, and their gentlemanly conduct had won golden opinions everywhere. It was decided to obtain a quotation for a supply of representative caps, for presentation to the members of the touring team. Some discussion took place on, the recent protest in the City-Gisborne match, and it was eventually decided that the match stand, as adjudicated upon by the New Zealand Rugby Union viz., a draw. Several matters of minor importance were discussed, and the meeting concluded. FIRE BRIGADE v. CITY BAND. Already considerable interest is being taken in the annual match to take place on September 9th, at the Victoria Domain, between teams representing the Fire Brigade and the City Band. 'The annual tournament between the Napier, Palmerst-on North and New Plymouth High Schools was concluded this morning, the final match being that ■ between New Plymouth and Napier.
