BOWLS ANDILIQUOR.
VICTORY FOR “NO-LICENSE.” At the annual meeting of the Port Melbourne Bowling Club considerable discussion took place as to whether the club license should be abolished. Mr. W. Watson, in moving that the license be abolished for twelve months, said that the profit from intoxicating liquors was not sufficient to warrant the continuance of the license. If they had relied on cigars and teetotal drinks they would have made nearly as_ much profit as they did with the license. If the license was abolished, he believed membership would' be increased. Mr. 0. J. Sarovich seconded the motion. . ’ ■• .• Mr: H. H. Hayman pointed out that if the license were abolished for one year there would be difficulty in renewing it. A Voice: We won’t want it. Mr. R. 0. Dando held that they should not do away with the privileges of any member. It was selfish to try and do away with the bar. _ The President said that at Camberwell the tone of the club, he understood/had improved since-the license had been done away with. The Rev. J. S. Buntine said that he had been a member of the club for five years,- but he bad always regretted that they had occupied the position, of'' amateur licensed victuallers. He would point out Ah at the liberty of total abstainers was taken away by having to belong to a club carrying a license, and : J thus having to violate their prim, ciplos.
