BREACHES OF INDUSTRIAL AWARDS. WELLINGTON, September 1. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, A. K. Boyd was fined £2 for breach of the coachbuilders’ award in employing a coach painter at piece work. Louis Richardson, the employee in question, was fined £l. The Inspector of Award! asked for a penalty of £2O against R. Hannah and Co., Ltd., charged with paying female employees less than the award wages. The defence was that the women had come from beyond the Dominion, and defendants did not know whether they had served fiv© years in the trade. Judgment was reserved.

WAKAPUAKA CABLE STATION. WAKAPUAKA, September 1. Mr. R. Wright, superintendent of the Eastern Extension Company, who succeeds Mr. E. Brooke, entered upon his duties to-day. The latter takes his departure this week for Melbourne. During his six months’ sojourn here he was looked* upon as a popular chief, and was highly respected by the staff. RAINFALL AT BLENHEIM. BLENHEIM, September 1. The rainfall for Blenheim during August was 3.78 inehes, compared with 1.70 for the corresponding month of last year. Yesterday 1.37 inches fell, the total fall this year to date is 22 inches, compared with 19.7 for the whole of last year. The figures for the country districts are greater. FORGERIES IN CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, September 1. At the Magistrate’s Court- to-day, Henry Porter pleaded guilty to four charges of forgery, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. J. A. Blackett > pleaded guilty to two charges, and was also committed for sentence. In all cases the forgery was on cheques for small amounts.
