MEETING OF COMMITTEE, The committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met yesterday afternoon, • the president (Colonel" Porter, C. 8.) in. the chair. The subject of coursing was discussed-, and the following resolution passed—- “ That this Society is of opinion that the sport of coursing is one that ought not to be supported by the public, as boing opposed to the true instinct's of sport and involving unnecessary cruelty to animals.” Copies of the resolution are to . ho forwarded to kindred societies, and asking them to co-operato in petitioning Parliament for its abolition. v A sub-committee was appointed to obtain information as to the sites required for watering places' for travelling stock, with power to act in endeavoring to get the authorities to make the much-needed provision. y * The question of appointing agents for the Societj' in outlying districts was placed in the hands of the same sub-committee. It was decided to take steps to form a children’s branch, as ,:t is considered that being identified with the Society 1 ini; early days will doubtless exercise an influence in after life, and it is hoped that many will eventually become useful adult members. It was decided that the Society he represented at the annual conference when held.
