INTERVIEWED IN CANADA. United Press Association—Copyright (Received 1 September 2, 11.20 p.m.) OTTAWA, Sept. 2. The Right Hon. James Bryce, British Ambassador at Washington, and Sir Joseph Ward conferred at Montreal regarding Webster’s claim against New Zealand. Sir Joseph Ward, 'in an interview, said that New Zealand stood firm for an undivided Imperial navy, but was out-voted in the Defence Conference. He. added that New Zealand was , a strong advocate of All-Red steamship and cable lines owned by the Government. ■ (Received September 3, 12.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 2. 11.M.5. Challenger will sail direct for Fiji on September 19th, to embark Sir Joseph Ward.
