HOCKEY.
CIVIL SERVICE TEAM.
A' team of Civil Service hockey players is to leave Gisborne on Sunday on a trip to Hawke’s Bay. They will play Napier Civil Servants on Monday, and Hastings on Tuesday, returning to Gisborne next day. The team comprises Messrs Payne (captain). Barker, Maher, Hargreaves, Bristow, File, Nelson, Rutherford, Bousfield, Mulvihill, Huston, and Ogilvie (manager). LADIES’ MATCH. A practice game between teams representing the Gisborne and Buslfmere Ladies’ Clubs took place at the Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon in showery and boisterous weather. After some interesting play, the Gisborne- ladies were returned winners by 4 goals to 1. Misses Smith (2), M. Winter and V. Walters scored for the winners, while Bushmere’s goal was obtained by Miss Teitjen. Mr. J. J. Martin controlled the game in an able manner, and at the conclusion afternoon tea was provided by the local ladies. i The Gisborne ladies journey out to Bushmere on Thursday, 16th prox., to play a return match. OTAGO DEFEATS WANGANUI. TPer Press Association.! DUNEDIN, Sept. 2. , The hockey match Otago v. Wanplayed here to-day, resulted 'in a win for the former by 4 goals to 1. The visitors attacked at the outset, but Otago quickly reversed the position/ and within three s/ minutes Gower registered the first goal for the home team. Towards the end of the* spell Kernahan scored for Wanganui, and at half-time the teams/ were level. In the second spell the home team asserted their superiority, and scored three goals, all secured by Gower. x
