The Cunard liner Lusitania reached New York in 4 days 11 £ hours, heating all records.

The Cunard liners have up till lately run between New York and Liverpool, via Queenstown (Ireland), but late English papers announced the dropping of Queenstown. There was another proposal that the Cunauxlers should drop both Queenstown arid Liverpool, and run to Plymouth or Southampton. It is not stated in the cable message where the Lusitania made her run from, but judging from the time, it would possiblv be Plymouth. On August 24 of last year the North-German Lloyd liner Kaiser Wilhelm 11. put up a record for the New York-Plymouth run of 5 days 9 hours 55 minutes from Sandy Hook to Eddystone. This has since been beaten twice by the Mauretania, once by two hours on the old route, and on the new route last week by over five hours. The true inwardness of the recent change* of route is the time taken by the American mail delivery. As long as the Ounarders were stopping at Queenstown —their letters being sent thence to London via Dublin and Holyhead—the German liners running to Plymouth continued to hold the mail record, despite the greater speed of the Ounarders. The New York-Plymouth run —then a record—of the Kaiser Wilhelm 11. in August last year was intended to demonstrate this, for a Great Western, special train connected with the German liner, and delivered the mails in London in 6 days 4§ houre from the time of the closing of the mail in New York —a record for the delivery of American mails in London.
