THE RABBIT INDUSTRY.
RABBITERS EARN £1 A DAY.
[Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, September 3. The rabbit industry during the winter liae been remarkable. It is 'estimated that between 600,000 and 700,000 skins have been purchased weekly in Dunedin, that quantity representing a monetary value of close on £4OOO. For prime doe skins as much as 2s lOd per lb has been paid. There has also been a slight increase in the prices of lower quality skins. This . increase in price has effected prejudicially the export of rabbits, since trappers get better prices for skins. This season’s supply of skins has enormously increased, which is due more to better prices than to increase in rabbits. It is estimated that practical rabbiters have earned over £1 daily. Although the industry .is a continuous one it is now falling off as the spring advances.
