RAILWAY FATALITY.

MAN KILLED BY A TRAIN.

[Per Press Association.l WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. diaries Standiall, a resident of Marion, who was seriously injured on the railway line near Thorndon Esplanade last "night, died in the hospital this morning. He never regained consciousness. At the inquest in Charles Standiall, of Marion, who died from injuries received through being knocked over by a train, the evidence showed that William Gadsby, of Hawera, travelled with the deceased from Marion. Gadsby and another person left the deceased on the Thorndon platform, and crossed the railway lines to feed some horses. One of them was carrying a truss of hay. A train came along and knocked the hay out of the man’s hands. It is - supposed Standiall had followed the other men, and' was struck by the same train. Sleeman, driver of the tram, said that the fireman told him to stop, as something was lying beside the line. Evans, the fireman, said his attention was called to the rattle of ballast at the rear of the engine. The light of the first carriage showed the form of a man lying beside tbe line. Tlie Coroner found that death was due to the' deceased coming in contact with a train going in the opposite direction, neither fireman nor driver being to blame.
