GISBORNE SWIMMING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING
The first annual meeting of the Gisborne Swimming Club was held at the Gisborne School last evening. Mr. F. J. Rowley occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members, including a number of ladies. Mr. A. F.' Kennedy wrote apologising for being unable to atend the meeting, and enclosing a cheque for £1 Is for a trophy to be given as the committee might direct. Mr. C. A. deLautour, president of the club, also sent an apology for absence. The secretary was instructed to thank Mr. Kennedy for his donation, •and to convey the club’s best wishes for his speedy recovery. 7 The annual report and balance-sheet, which showed that the club was £5 18s 3d in credit, were read and adopted. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. C. A. deLautour (reelected) : vice-presidents, Messrs A. F. Kennedy, D. J. Barry, A. Hutchinson, F. Parker, and J. Townley; captain, Mr. Oharies Morse; vice-captain, Mr. J. McLean; secretary, Mr 0. R. Olsen; treasurer, Mr. H. Miller; committee, Messrs L. Redward, O. Church, J. Colley, R; Morse, and A. Gray. ' , : Mr. Rowley reported that since last season various improvements, in the shape of a high dive, a water shoot, and Roman 4’ings bad been erected. The path around the bath had been top-dressed, and a drain was being put around to carry off the splash water. It was decided that the swimming season should be opened on October 2nd. . t j'-: ■ •
, Mr. Darton moved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the retiring officers. The committee, he said, had worked hard, and made the bath an entire success, and taken a great deal of work off the hands of the .School Committee, who did a wise thing in handing the control of the bath over to the Swimming Club. Mr. D., J. Barry seconded the rao/fipn, which was carried unanimously. On the. motion of Mr. H. Miller, a vote of thanks was accorded to the captain (Mr. C. Morse), and Mr. Darton suggested that a honorarium bo voted to him a 9 a mark of the appreciation of,.his services. .
. Mr. Darton moved, and Mr. Miller seconded, a resolution that, ladies be allowed the use of the bath for two hours on two days a week instead oi two separate hours daily as at present. The motion was carried. Mr. D. J. Barry offered to subscribe a trophy to be competed for at tlio discretion. of the committee. The offer was received with applause. Supper was then served by the ladies. The following prizes, won at tho various carnivals, were distributed: 50yds Maiden Race, E. Luttrell 1 (Mr. Redward’s medal), S. Luttrell 1 (Nathan and Co.’s bag); Plate Diving, E. Ahuriri (Mr. Miller’s prize), W. Fitzmanrice 2; Relay Race, J. McLean, P. C. Bavly, J. Curtis and vv. Payne 1 (walking sticks), E. Luttrell, 0- Solvander. C. Morse, and A. Beere 2; 50yds Invitation Race, J. Wauchop 1 (gold medal), R. Seymour 2; Neatest Header.'J. McLean 1, J. S. Wauchop 2; 50yds Junior Race, A. Beere 1 (J. Townley’s medal), S. Dennett 2; 75yds Handicap, W. Carroll 1, A. Gerrard 2; Diving for Objects, T. S. Brown 1 (Common, Shelton and Co.’s trophy); lOOvds Re-lav Race, J. Curtis, A. Gerrarcl, G. Rowe, and A. L. Robinson 1 (Messrs Williams and Kettle’s, Adair Bros.’, T. Adams’, and A. T. Hookey’s trophies respectively. During the evening songs wore given by Messrs B. Wilkinson and A. Gray.
