A SOCIAL GATHERING.
WAERENGA-A-HIKA PAROCHIAL DISTRICT. A pleasant social gathering was held in the Waerenga-a-hika Pubuc Hall on Friday evening in aid of the Waerenga-a-hiki parochial district. In addition to a long programme given there were several stalls in the hall. The workstall was well stocked Avith articles both useful and ornamental, and was presided over by Mrs. Gray assisted by Mrs G. Witters and the Misses Gray (2) and Gillam. The refreshment stall, amply provided by free gifts from friends in the district, was _ presided over by the following ladies: —Mesdames Ward, Ellis, Butterfield, Barber, Sharp, and Miss Evans. An excellent concert programme was submitted, in which nearly all the items were encored. The following ladies and gentlemen contributed: Misses McKenzie and Gray, Messrs. Barlow, Ivnibb, Grieve, London and Ellis. The accompaniments were played by Misses Cameron > arid Barnes and Messrs. Langdon and Ellis. Before tho concluding item was sung the vicar, the Rev. E. Ward, in a neat speech thanked all present tor their attendance, the performers and friends of the church, for their liberal contributions to make the social, such a. success. ; * After the concert the floor was cleared and dancing was indulged in by the voung people until 12 o’clock. -The thoroughness with which even the youngest of those present enjoyed themselves was particularly noticeable, Special mention should be made of.the good music that was. voluntarily supplied by Messrs Ellis, Langdon, Davis, and Swainson,. while the duties ot M.C. were performed by Mr. Paul m a thoroughly efficient manner. Messrs. H J. Lougher and J. Hyland were also helpful* in making the affair a success*. »>;
