IMMIGRATION TO AUSTRALIA.
A PLEA FOR BRITISH ASSISTANCE. United Press Association— Copyright. LONDON, Sept. 5. The Hon. W. L. Baillieu, of Melbourne, in a letter to the “Times,” urges Great Britain to assist Australia in increasing her population. He says that it is true that various selfish short-sighted interests are opposed to the introduction of strangers, even though they were Britons*, but these are in the minority. Australia as a whole is giving a cordial welcome and considerable financial assistance to the British immigrant.
