THE WEATHER.

HEAVy AND CONTINUOUS RAIN. As was the case on the previous Sunday, heavy, rain fell without intermission all day yesterday, commencing in the early hours of the morning, and up till an early hour this morning it showed no signs of abatement. A strong wind made the weather conditions all the more unpleasant,_ and the streets last night were simply ; streams of running water. Both the Waimata and Taruheru rivers were uch dicsooedrlmfw hrd cmfwyphrud! much discolored and swollen, and driftwood was coming down in quantities. .Many of the paddocks in the suburbs were reported to be several laches under water, while round abou/fc Makaraka, Makauri, and Te Arai sheets of water lay on the flats. Being Sunday, little news was received in town regarding the weather in the country districts, hut it appears that the rain has been fairly general, and that many •of the creeks are already in a state of flood. The U.S.S. Co.’s Monowai passed hrough heavy rain all the way down the coast yesterday, and the work of transhipping both inward and outward passengers was attended with considerable inconvenience.
