BOROUGH OF ASHBURTON.
A WATER SUPPLY LOAN ARRANGED.
[Per Press Association-! ASHBURTON, Sept. 6. The Asrburton Borough Council was authorised by a vote oi the ratepayers sixteen months ago to raise a loan of £15,000, at 4$ per cent, for the purpose of tbe installation of a high-pressure water supply, but till the end of last month their"efforts to secure the money on satisfactory terms in the Dominion or the Australian Commonwealth were unavailing. At a. meeting of the Council to-night, however, an offer was received from the Bank of New Zealand to advance the whole sum, at 9<s, provided the loan was secured by a special rate of seven pence in the pound, and that the Council transfer its business from the Union Bank, as at to; ; = the Bank of New Zealand. The offer was accepted in to to, and-the necessary special orders passed. ; It is expected that the work will be put m hand at an early date. The question of the op- , pointment of nn engineer, etc., is under consideration. \ ■; ,
