POVERTY BAY ROWING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of tho Poverty Bay'Rowing Club was held at tho Albion Hotel last evening, Mr. J. Webb (Captain) in' the chair. There was a fair attendance of members. The annual report, us follows, was read and adopted.:— Gentlemen, —Your Committee in submitting the Twenty-sixth Annual Report and Balance Sheet, have much pleasure in congratulating members upon the satisfactory position of the Club, both as regards membership -and funds, and it is hoped that the coming season will be as successful. Financial.—The Committee have great pleasure in informing members that there is still a credit balance in the Bank, after buying two new Fouroared Boats and Oarsr—viz., £32 Os Id, Cash Receipts shows £197 19s 3d, Expenditure £165 19s 2d. Donators.—The thanks of the Club are due to all the gentlemen who presented Trophies and made Donations to the Club, and the interest taken in the Club by them during the season. Trophies were donated by the following gentlemen:—Messrs F. Harris, C. Morse, B. S. Cox, P. H. Graham, W. Fraser, H. J. Grieve, and H. J. Peacock. Donations: Messrs E. P. Joyce, R. S. Chilton, Hon. J. Carroll, Dr. Scott, D. Moore, F. H. Trail, J. Erskine, A. Sawyer, G. J. Black, W. Pettie, A. P. Hailey, J: Harry, . Judge Jones, E. File.. . Plant. —During the season two new four-oared' boats were delivered by Mr G. Norton, of Wellington, and the Committee are also inquiring for prices for the Convert-able Double Sculls and two Single Sculls. With the present three good 1 Four-oared Boats, the two Double Sculls and Two Single Sculls, the Club will have a very good plant; Chib House. —The old Club House has been pulled do pm by members, and any material 1 that is of use will be used in the erection of the new Club House next to Mr G. Smith. The Committee having obtained permission from the Harbour Board it is intended to do most of the work by the members so as to save expense, for the Club will he spending about £3OO on the new Club House and Boats, etc. Opening Day.—The season was opened by his Worship the Mayor (Mr W. D. Lysnar) on October loth, 1908. There was a procession of boats and launches, and several short races took place. Thanks are due to the City Band for attending, and the music added greatly to the afternoon’s enjoyment, also to the gentlemen who placed their launches at the disposal of the Opening Day Committee. Tologa Bay.—At Easter about sixteen. members journeyed to Tologa Bay to assist the Uawa Club at their opening. Our crews were successful in winning several races, and the trip was a most enjoyable one, and the members spoke in favour of trying to have a regatta held there at New Year time. The thanks of the merhbers are due to Mr J. Harvey for driving them to Tologa Bay to attend the Regatta. Rowing.—The Licensed Victuallers Shield Competition.—The Crews. were selected for the events: —viz., Seniors, Juniors, and Ten-stone. The _ Seniors won their event, but both Juniors and Ten-stone lost, thus losing the Shield 1 by one point. Club Rowing.—The entries were, all good for the different events during , the season, and some very exciting finishes were seen, crews winning by a few feet. ' Thanks. —The thanks of the Club are due to the Press for the excellent manner in which they reported the Club’s work during the season. Also to the Cosmopolitan Club for the use of their rooms for Committee Meetings, etc. A special vote of thanks are due to Miss Austin for the handsome Flag presented to the Club . , .. Socials.—On EJaster Monday night the Club held a .Social in the Drill Hall, and it was intended to present the Trophies won during the season, but the Trophies (not being ready tneyj were presented by Mr J. R. B- ir k 111 Whinray’s Hall, on the 15th of July, 1909. And the thanks of the Club are due to the Ladies who assisted bo ably at the socials and made them, a success, also to Mr J. R. Kirk for presenting the trophies, and doing the legal business of the Chib. . Guarantors. —The Club wish to thank those gentlemen who signed the guarantee list on October 10th, loyo, and also ‘ to all the gentlemen who signed the new guarantee list for an overdraft of £IOO. Conclusion.—ln conclusion your Committ© wish to thank members for their assistance during the season. They would impress upon members the necessity of taking great care of the plant and Club House, for thev will he under a very heavy expense during the season.' ' , „ .
