A BURGLAR IN AN HOTEL.
NOCTURNAL VISITOR CAUGHT IN WARNER’S, CHRISTCHURCH. [Per Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 7. The guests in Warner’s Hotel had a rather startling experience this morning. At an early hour an enterprising burglai', who ascended by means of the fire-escape, visited several rooms, and levied toll on the valuables of the sleepers. In one room, however, the intended victim was awakened by the entrance of the burglar, and tackled him. A rough and tumble ensued, the guest calling lustily for help. The night porter, the manager of the hotel, and some others wore quickly on the spot, and the police were telephoned for. On their speedy arrival the burglar visitor was handed over, and subsequently, on pleading guilty at the Magistrate’s Court to-day,, wae sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. He had made a fairly good collection from the rooms, visited by him.
