TATTERSALL’S CLUB.
ACTING-PRIME MINISTER’S . . OPINION. TPer Press Association.! WELLINGTON, September 7. At the opening of the New Zealand Tattersall’s Club last night, tho Hon. J. A. Millar said if certain people would go and see races for themselves they would not find >so much to condemn. He thought the club should become the headquarters of all forme of sport, including football, cricket, hockey, lawn tennis, bowls. The result of the passing of the Gaming Act had been to put racing on a better footing. Bookmaker’s payments had materially assisted the clubs. The Hon. J. Carroll, referring to bookmakers, said he had had personal experience, and he had found them to be good samples of manhood.. Ho appealed to all concerned in racing clubs, owners, and bookmakers to unite in true co-operation to make it a success. Tattersall’s Club should be a graduating school for bookmakers, and prove a valuable guide to clubs in granting licenses.
