In the House of Commons, Air. AYinston Churchill (President of the Board oii Trade), in reply to a question respecting the AVa'atah, said he did not think that the tune had come when the provision of wireless telegraphy should be made obligatory on passenger vessels, though ho would be glad if it were more widely used.
RESOLUTION OF THE FEDERAL PARLIAMENT.
(Received Sejitembor 9, 11.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 9.
In the Federal House of Representatives, Air. Kelly proposed a motion in favor of the immediate establishment of wireless stations round thfc coasts, ahd that merchant vessels be equipped with wireless installations, as an up-to-date means, firstly, of giving intelligence of the appearance in Australian waters of any hostile force; secondly, of saving life and property imperilled by accident at sea. He suggested that one station should be located on the East Coast, with the view of establishing communication with New Zealand.
The Postmaster-General stated that he had much pleasure in supporting the motion, and hoped that, with .910,000 on the estimates for the purposes of wireless telegraphy, at least two stations would be equipped, one in the vicinity of Sydney and tho other at Fremantle. While defence would ho the main consideration, lie hoped to make the system a commercial success. Tho motion was adopted on the voices.
